New York Kathak Festival

The New York Kathak Festival is a newly formed organization that presents and promotes dancers, scholars, and practitioners of Kathak, a classical dance tracing its origins to India. The first New York Kathak Festival featured dancers, musicians, and scholars from 15 cities all over the world.

I attended the opening night on Friday 4/19. The festival began by a beautiful performance by Pandit Satya Narayana Charka and opening remarks by the kathak legend, Pandit Birju Maharaj. The festival included performances by Satya Narayana Charka, Tarika Nath, Anindita Anaam, Shivangi Dake Robert, Barkha Patel, Farah Yasmeen Shaikh & Noorani Dance Company and Courtyard Dancers.
